Some of the best runners in the world will be this weekend at the starting line of Penyagolosa Trails HG, the mountain race that links Castellón with Sant Joan de Penyagolosa along the millenary paths of the Lluna Plena. It is one of the most important Spanish trailrunning events, due to its high participation (more than two thousand runners), its history (it celebrates its twenty-first edition this year) and the vast repercussion it obtained in 2018 as the Home of the Trail World Championships.
This year its two classic races will be held. In the 21st edition of the Marató i Mitja (MiM) will face some of the best runners in the Spanish scene, as this is a scoring race to win places for the Spanish Trailrunning National Team, which will run on June 8 the world championship in Portugal. Pablo Villalobos, Dani Aguirre, Cristobal Adell and Miguel Caballero, as well as the international runners Andris Ronimoiss, Andre Jonsson and Vaidas Zlabys are the main favorites to be the fastest of the race, which begins on Saturday at 6 in the morning at the Universitat Jaume I. In the female category, all eyes will be on Azara García, the best national runner of the moment. The girl from the HG AML Team goes to Castellón with the place for the World Championship already achieved, the other runners who will try to follow her will be the South African Landie Greyling and the spaniards Montse Martinez, Mònica Vives or Cristina Santurino.
Six hours before the departure of the MiM, and from the Plaza de las Aulas de Castellón, will take place the start of the CSP, of 109km and with arrival also in the sanctuary of Sant Joan. The race also has an important lineup of elite runners, with names such as the world championship silver medal Cristofer Clemente, the British Harry Jones, the Catalan Isaac Riera and the North Americans Mario Mendoza and Cody Reed. The local runner Víctor Bernad will also have options as he knows very well what it is to win in Penyagolosa Trails HG. On the other hand, also the girl from HG AML Team Gemma Arenas will be the main runner to follow, although it will be difficult to win against the Westers States winner Cat Bradley, the Brazilians Nini Oliveira and Cecilia Ramos or the locals Xari Adrián and Sonia Escuriola.
