The Ultra Trail World Tour 2018 awards ceremony was held in Barcelona last friday. The event took place at the Fundació Joan Miró and was also the starting point for the next edition of the most important trailrunning circuit in the world.
Pau Capell and Jordi Gamito were the main protagonists of the evening, as champion and 2nd of the 2018 edition. The two Spanish runners received their trophies and captured the flashes of the dozens of accredited journalists. The female champion of the circuit, the Chinese Miao Yao, could not travel to Barcelona but the second and third, the Italian Francesca Canepa and the American Kelly Wolf, did appear in the catalán capital.
The novelties of the 2019 edition were presented a few weeks ago, but the event served to bring together the organizers of the best races in the world in a relaxed context. The circuit opens a new configuration of its scoring system, in which the most important races will be the Ultra Trail du Montblanc and, for the first time, the Transgrancanaria HG. The well-known Canarian event counts as well as Series Bonus, so scoring in it will be vital if you want to qualify for the first places of the tournament. This will encourage the best runners in the world to meet in Gran Canaria during the last week of February.
Another HG race, Madeira Island Ultra Trail, continues on the circuit as one of the veterans of this UTWT. April 27 is the date indicated to travel to the fantastic Portuguese island of the Atlantic. The Spanish race Penyagolosa Trails HG, which organized the World Championship in 2018, has also taken a step forward and has consolidated its position in the circuit as a Pro race. The ultratrail family will land in Castellón on May 11. Finally, another UTWT race that has HG as sponsor will be Azores Trail Run, which in this edition is presented as one of the discovery races.
As always, the great presence of SportHG® in the Ultra Trail Word Tour consolidates the brand as one of the international references of outdoor and trailrunning.
